John Doman was born on 9 January 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He has done graduation from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a Marine Corps officer and an advertising executive before he started acting.
He made a cameo appearance in the film ‘Cop Land’ in 1997 and in ‘Mystic River‘ in 2003. He made a guest appearance in one episode of ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’. He appeared as “Dr. Carl Deraad” in ‘ER‘ during its fifth and sixth season. Recently, he was introduced as a bad guy, in season two of ‘Damages‘.
He earned much recognition for his role in ‘The Wire’. He has appeared as himself in ‘The Wire Odyssey’, ‘The Wire: It’s All Connected’, and was uncredited for his appearance as himself in ‘The Wire: The Last Word‘. He narrated the television series ‘Timeless‘ in 2005. Apart from this, he has appeared on television in ‘Empty Cradle’, ‘Donor Unknown‘, ‘The City’, ‘A Glimpse of Hell’, ‘Three Blind Mice’ and ‘Leslie’s Folly’.
He has lend his voice for the ‘Beavis and Butt-Head Do America’ as an airplane captain and as a White House representative, as well as in video games like, ‘Manhunt‘ for “Hoods“, in ‘Midnight Club II’ for “Diego” and in ‘Mafia: Lost Heaven’ for “Don Morallo“. He made his appearances for a few episodes in ‘New York News’, ‘New York Undercover‘, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Marital Law’, ‘The Practice’, etc.
His acting credit is extended to his roles in ‘Sympathetic Details’, ‘Gracie‘, ‘Jimmy Blue’, ‘Dawn’s Early Light’, ‘Rock the Paint‘, ‘Noel‘, ‘The Kings of Brooklyn’, ‘Mystic River’, ‘The Opponent‘, ‘Mercury Rising’ and ‘Little Boy Blue’, etc.
Role in The Wire
John Doman is playing “William Rawls” in ‘The Wire’ tv show. He was the Commanding Officer of the homicide unit when he was seen in season one. He became the Acting Commissioner in due course of time . Not much is known about his personal life, but it is assumed that he is a closeted homosexual. In the final episode of season five, he is sworn in as the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. This became possible for him due to his loyalty to Carcetti and his non-interference in the appointment of Valchek as the Commissioner.
