Dominic West was born on 15 October 1969 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He belongs to an Irish Catholic family and his father George West owed a plastic factory. His mother’s name is Moya and she is a housewife. He attended the Eton College and Trinity College, Dublin. He also attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama and earned a B.A Honours Degree in Acting in 1995.
In 1991, he debuted with the short, ‘3 Joes’. He appeared on screen for ‘True Blue’, ‘Chicago’ and ‘Mona Lisa Smile’. He is best known for his role in ‘The Wire’ as “Det. James ‘Jimmy’ McNulty”. He spoke in an accent, which suited the character very well. In the film ‘Rock Star’, he appears as a heavy-metal guitarist “Kirk Cuddy”. In the film ‘300′, he played “Theron” and in ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’, he played “Lysander”. He has done theatre work and has worked in plays like, ‘The Seagull’, ‘As you Like It’, ‘The Voysey Inheritance’ and ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’. He has acted in the channel 4 series ‘The Devil’s Whore’.
